Thanks to the good people of Alabama and especially to the brave women (many of whom were Trump voters living in Trump districts) who came forward with their stories. They all stood tough despite being maligned by a powerful man and getting little/no support from state political and religious leaders (especially evangelical Christians leaders) and from media outlets such as Fox News and talk radio. They were ordinary women who did something extraordinary.

Further evidence that voter suppression is counterproductive to democracy and damaging to the country as a whole. If black voters had not gotten out in great numbers and funded their own efforts to get on the ground and ensure African-American voters got registered and were not deterred at the polls then Roy Moore would be celebrating today. This victory for Doug Jones speaks volumes of why it is so important for white people to not simply shrug their shoulders and say, “Meh” about issues like gerrymandering and police intimidation at polling stations and insufficient equipment and staffing causing long lines at polling stations and biased voter ID laws...white people cannot afford to tolerate the existence of these forms of systemic racism that inhibit African-Americans from exercising their Constitutional right because voter suppression affects white folks too. Had the Black Belt in Alabama been suppressed like they usually are, had black grassroots organizations not put forth the energy and effort to make sure black voices were heard this Alabama Senate race would have had an entirely different outcome.

The voters are a collection of people. Some made a respectful decision and some did not. Pat on the back to some and a kick in the a$$ to the others. Celebrate some, denigrate others. It's not all or nothing.
