I'm only somewhat interested in the answer because the real issue for those trying so hard to make this about race is that multiculturalism has already happened. The power dynamic in the world order has already shifted.

You can tell who didn't get the memo because they're still talking about history and empires. Everyone one else sees this as something beyond American and is moving on. MAGA is a huge bust.

Hint: it doesn't mean your life is easy. It means it's "easier" compared to minorities who have to live with being suspected of some crime just because of how you look.

I and my white friends celebrated our white heritage all throughout the year --Columbus Day (European colonization of the Americas), Halloween (of Irish origins), Thanksgiving (the pilgrims) Christmas (really a German made holiday with the trees and the songs and the cookies), George Washington's birthday, Valentine's Day (concocted in Europe in the middle ages), St. Patrick's Day (self-evident), Easter (the bunny and the baskets with candy etc. -- all from European traditions), 4th of July. How many holidays of African or Asian origins do we as Americans celebrate?

I have a good friend who is very active in Polish American groups. My high school had a German dance troupe. Every year there are Bastille Day celebrations across the US. Alexandria has a Scottish Christmas celebration each year. I would be that in Minnesota and other upper midwest regions there are a lot of fun Scandinavian traditions that are kept going and celebrated.

Meanwhile I look at our presidents (all white so far except for one). The governers of the various states I've lived in (pretty much 100% white for 2+ centuries). Senators and Representatives (majority have been white even the past 20 years). The tv shows I watched growing up (90% white characters). The broadcast anchors I watched growing up and now (about 90% white back in the 70s, now still heavily white). The movies: how many Oscars go to actors and directors who are not white? Not many. How many blockbuster films star white actors? Most of them...sometimes even when the character is supposed to be a person of color.

All around me I see white European culture being celebrated and dominating American culture. I see no signs of it being repressed.

Why do various ethnic and racial groups have 'feel good slogans'? Why don't you read up on the history of American race relations and look at who is in power - in the government, in corporations, at the upper rungs of univeresities, in cultural production - and tell us why? Or will you melt once you realize the extent of what Americans of non-European ancestry have had to put up with over the centuries?

Again, I don't know about other minorities, but I don't tell white people they should be ashamed of being white. It's fine to be proud of who you are, but it's not ok to do so in a way that pushes other groups down, which is how I see those white supremacists groups.

And if a white person feels that kind of negativity, then I'm going to assume that they have some deep seated issues of some kind, because most white people I know don't feel any kind of negativity for being white. And we live in a racially diverse area.

This is why some people say white people are clueless. Look at the list. These are all small groups and/or under represented groups in business as well as in government. DNC is trying to bring a voice to these under represented groups. White people as a whole are NOT under represented in either business or government. They are not excluding white people as a whole. They are represented in the bolded groups.

And white people are not "forbidden" to have an identity. It's not against the law to display your Irish/British/Italian flag. I've seen plenty of them waving around, displayed on cars, homes... whatever. What is frowned upon by most people is being part of a group that hates non white people and/or wants to kick them out/stop them from immigrating/cleave a part of the US for only white people (ie, white nationalists).

So whites are only allowed to celebrate their ethnicity but not their race? By this logic, shouldn't blacks be limited to celebrating their Congo/Chad/Nigerian ancestry?

Oh, do most black Americans whose ancestors came here before 1860 know the ethnic background of their African ancestors who were forced to come here as slaves?
