Because we take lots of long trips (5 hours each way) with a packed car (kids in college), I think we should go ahead and look at getting a new Pilot. We generally drive cars until they die, but with our long trips I fear being stranded somewhere.

My husband said that a Pilot can easily go 300,000 miles and that "it isn't showing any signs of dying - it is running great." While the last statement is true, is it customary for cars to "show signs" of dying??

Again, I worry about the surprise death hours from home. Are we ok waiting until it "shows signs of dying"?

I’ve only ever bought Hondas and I’ve never had one last for more than 180k before becoming unreliable. That being said, if you’re treating it well and it’s running well, I’d keep it.

My 2007 Honda Pilot has over 260,000 miles and still going strong! We call her Ol' Reliable because she starts up every single time even after sitting around for a few weeks! I have noticed the car mileage has gone down a bit but I'm keeping her until she dies! The AC has always worked great and the only major problem I've had throughout the years is having to replace the alternator back in 2021. I love my baby!!!

I have a 2016 with 105k miles on it and it has never given me a lick of trouble. I know 7 years old/100k miles is nothing in the "Honda verse" but it is very refreshing after driving a GMC Acadia that was a complete POS.

These replies are super interesting to me! We have a 2011 that has been impeccably maintained, but now at 140k miles it is starting to have issue after issue. We will be selling it and do not plan to buy another Pilot. Maybe the earlier models have better longevity?

My Honda Pilot started to fall apart at 120k miles. I sold it.

My 2012 Pilot has had an alternator burn up at about 140,000 miles, and the exhaust rusted out, so I had to have an aftermarket cat-back installed around the same time. A factory issue with the one bank of piston rings required replacement. This was a very major repair at 150,000 miles, but it was covered under what I believe to be a federally mandated "extended warranty" as it was burning oil / a pollution issue. No other issues before or since. Now almost at 220,000 miles. Running very well, and little oil burn.

Have a 2006 I purchased used with 137,000. The pilot had complete records and the belt/water pump done at 106,000. At about 168,000 drove it from Wisconsin to Arizona in March and Wisconsin to Florida in June. It cruses well at 80 mph. It now has 195,000 with no issues. Starts up in 30 below. A little noisy for a few minutes when that cold. Looking for another Pilot to replace the mini van. If you can find one with good maintenance records that is the way to go. My goal is at least 300,000. It does get regular maintenance and did have the breaks replaced before the Florida trip. Also still no body rust and Wisconsin uses salt.

Volvo holds the record. Three million on original engine, transmission and paint job. That is a world record for a passenger car.

325000 miles on my honda pilot with the original engine. Runs great and I think that I will make it to 400000 easily.

400200 miles on our 2003 Honda Pilot! Just got it painted and interior detailed! Change oil every 3500 miles. We use Lucas gas treatment each fill up .

Our Pilot is clocking 230,000 miles. Honda service mentioned they see 500k pilot's.
