I would be except then you get into the barracks bathroom shower issue. The military has things on its plate, like fighting a war on many fronts, that are simply more important than this, for now.

We can have the debate about how the government should handle medical issues relating to transgender service members. It can even be a robust debate if that's what folks want.

That is all separate and apart from Trump's unrelated decision today. Which was just an impetuous, unsurprising backtrack on his promise to stand with this country's LGBTQ community, and a craven attempt to get some more favor from that small minority of people who are sticking with him BECAUSE he is so backwards and not despite. He is a terrible leader, a worthless politician, and a turd of a human being.

IVF is already excluded. The military will pay for some drugs like clomid, and in its OB residency programs offers reduced-price IUI and IVF to a limited number of patients each year. They still pay thousands out of pocket for the drugs involved, because military insurance will not cover it.

Thousands of troops currently serving in the military are transgender, and some estimates place the number as high as 11,000 in the reserves and active duty military, according to a Rand Corp. study commissioned by the Defense Department.

Ok, so why stop there? Suspend military benefits that include any elective surgery (including cosmetic and IVF) and any elective medications like Viagra.

I suspect a lot of people were enlisting in the hopes of having DOD pay for the transition. There have always been people who enlisted for medical care. Years ago, I knew someone who enlisted because his wife had cancer. Very sad. She was young. He did stay in after she passed and was an asset to the service. I also have known of others who did this. The data would be difficult to find, but I personally know of several who stayed in because of medical issues in their families.
