Ben is an alcoholic. Knowing what I know about addicts he was probably attracted to her because she enabled/tolerated his alcoholism and Jen did not. Ben and his ugly mistress deserve each other.

Jen rebuilt his whole image. Don't forget before her he was a joke after the J lo/gigli fiasco. He wouldn't have been able to move into directing without jen making all her Christian movies to pay the bills.
