Lol- they're not discussing sex positions! Most daycares in this area will have kids with gay parents. This is nice, in my opinion, that they're celebrating Pride.

Kids celebrate all sorts of things they don't understand. It's how families and cultures transmit values. My kid celebrated his first Christmas at 9 months old. The only thing he understood was that the paper was pretty but mommy wouldn't let you eat it. He sang "Happy Birthday" to his Grandpa with glee, long before he had understanding that people were born. And he can wear a rainbow, and know that the day is important, even if he only has a vague understanding that it has to do with Uncle Billy and Uncle Jack, or marriage, or whatever. But later, when he's 15 and trying to figure out whether his mom is someone he can talk to about his own questions about his own sexuality, he'll have the security of knowing that his parents are deeply committed to gay rights, in small part because they still have that picture of him in his rainbow Tshirt in preschool in the photo album.

It is sad! I’ve had a home daycare for 16 years and I always have at least one indoctrinated child in every group trying to police the other children based on their parent’s gender biases.
I currently have a 5 year old that has proclaimed only girls can have long hair, paint their nails, and play in the housekeeping area. They try to keep the girls from playing with the car and truck toys and have told me(!) that I shouldn’t have short hair.
Just about every day I have to remind that my toys and books are for children and not boys or girls. Everyone can like unicorns and/or monster trucks. That people can dress or groom however they like, and enjoy whatever colors they do. Goodness the hyper focus on colors for genders is a perennial.
It’s a constant battle to keep it out of my house.

+1. I'm wearing a Unity Orlando Pride t-shirt right now. I'm very supportive of gay marriage. I'm a minister who happily performs ceremonies. But its not a preschool topic. All they need to learn is to be kind. We want to raise our littlest people to see gay rights as a given. Not as something different.

This is unrealistic. The LGBTQ community is under attack and their rights are not a given. We need to celebrate and uplift them.

What rights do LGBTQ people not have?

There are many rights that individual states do not extend to LGBTQ citizens. While the rights granted by marriage have been enforced due to Hodges, there are many rights that are not included that are decided by the states. As you can probably guess, the red states in particular do what they can not to recognize gay citizens and gay couples wherever they are allowed and deny them benefits that they should be entitled to.

It is better to gradually introduce topics in age appropriate ways than to wait until they are older.
