To the PP who responded to me. I find it difficult to swallow that posters like you are claiming that atheists love to play the victim card in a thread that was created by a religious person to mock atheists. This thread is filled with such aggressive questioning. At the end of the day life is short, do what makes you feel fulfilled and happy and what helps make the world a better place. If we all do that, regardless of what our motivations are (ie, heaven or just because) then we'll all end up alright.

I'm PP but that was my first post in this thread. I read through this entire thread with fresh eyes and really vehemently disagree. The OP is an objectively mean and taunting post designed to insults and be mean to atheists. A couple people responded with some dry humor explaining that no there is no great agenda to being an atheist, it is just who we are. Those posters were then accused of being arrogant and rude. I thought they actually responded with a lot of restraint to really unnecessarily mean and insulting OP frankly.

Throughout this thread here is just a sampling of the things that I have felt to be extremely insulting and dismissive of atheists (not including the OP):

By far the vast majority of atheists aren't simply people who don't believe in god(s). They are people who are vitriolic in their opposition to religion,

Most atheists absolutely hate religion with a passion. That's far beyond merely disbelief in god. They hate the institution of religion.

the atheists on DCUM remind me of the philosophy 101 kids.

Funny, I find some atheists to be absolute and rigid in their atheism. While many people of faith, at least those who aren't afraid to question their doctrine and faith, have grappled with ambiguity and nuance--to me that requires intelligence.

I do agree DCUM's atheists are obsessed with their own importance and victimhood. They derail threads to talk about themselves and pick fights based on perceived slights, like the eye-roller did above.

And then they wonder why nobody likes them. Folks, it has nothing to do with your atheism, and everything to do with how you conduct yourselves.

I'm sorry you've had some bad interactions with atheists, most of us have had bad interactions with religious folks. Perhaps we'd all get along better if we simply respected each other and, if curious, started a dialogue.

The atheists have been much worse on this thread, IMO. Too bad you guys can't also acknowledge that.
