If they do, you can always spray them w/scented linen spray.

I live in an 800 sf apartment with kids and pets, so every bit of space is precious.

When my guests leave I take the linens off the bed (fold out in our case) and put the sheets & pillowcases in the hamper (yes there are clothes in there too, but spread over a week or so it'll all get done. I fold the blanket and quilt and put them in the linen chest unless they need a wash too.

Sheets get dried with lavender sachets and still smell great when they need to get used next time. If I had a dedicated guest room I imagine I'd still put everything away and then put a coverlet over the mattress cover to shield it from dust and make the bed fresh when company was coming.

Wouldn't hurt to wash the mattress pad occasionally. But then, that's yet another load that OP has to schedule into her busy life. On Monday, because you can't wash linens on any other day, and without even thinking about putting it in the laundry basket until then, because you don't put linens in the laundry basket.

I really want to start a "how do you load the dishwasher" thread again. This is just so much fun.

I feel like simply reading this thread has made me more uptight.

Actually, my FIL rolls the mass of linens into a tight ball that takes a good amount of wrestling to pull apart. Then I have to remove the mattress pad that isn't supposed to be removed from the bed but it is. It's a lot of work when I have 5 other loads of laundry that need to be done first.

Thank goodness they only come twice a year.

The guests are removing the mattress pad and rolling it into a ball with the sheets.

Because it's wrapped up in the sheet ball. OP's FIL doesn't get that you don't wash it.

I mostly do B. However, I usually remove them and leave the mattress protector on.

But if it's going to be a while definitely just take them off right away. For me it's optional to make the bed right away / fold the sheets up. I don't mind it with the protector on, because no one sees that room. Prevents re-work.

This is what I do t get. Does OP live in a 10x10 apartment with only a washer and a dryer? Maybe they eat dinner on top of the washer and need that space so the sheets absolutely must be washed immediately or they'll all starve to death?

Not OP but there is no place in my entire house that can hold a pile of dirty sheets for any length of time. The hampers are for clothes and have no room for sheets and the laundry area is really a closet with no room for the sheets. I suppose I could dump them on the floor of the guest room but even I'll admit that's just stupid and I might as well wash them at that point. It's not that washing them is hard, it's just that it has to be done immediately if they've been dumped in the laundry closet. And I have asked the in-laws not to do that but it's always done regardless. I would also prefer to never have house guests but that's always done regardless as well.

OMG! And this whole time I have been putting towels in the hamper! Only to find out on DCUM that hampers are for clothes. I am not sure how to go on now.
