Thats not the point though. Yes there are many non-racist people. In your face racist hatred exists only in white supremacist groups. But there are very subtle and unrecognized racist views that still causes harm to minorities.

I'm not a fan of white priviledge as a concept as I do not come from a wealthy background. However, I must admit that white people do get treated better in some ways, right off the bat. Maybe, we get given the benefit of the doubt?
For example, I am in Spain and don't speak much Spanish. My horrible attempts at Spanish are met with smiles. If I was a person of colour, I guess people would start out thinking a) illegal immigrant (given the current crisis in Europe) and then b) get mad because they don't speak Spanish/won't integrate etc etc.
I look like a tourist so I get off lightly. I noticed this when my AA friend came to visit me here.

That's great but I'm not talking about you, in particular nor am I speaking for myself.
I, like you, tend to try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt and I , like you, try to view everyone as individuals.
But I'm not speaking about myself or anyone else for that matter when I say that whites are viewed by and large as individuals while people of color are viewed as part of their collective...I'm speaking about society as a whole and more specifically I'm speaking about the systemic views of our society in the sense that while a cop or a lawyer or a judge may regard a person of color as an individual but law enforcement agencies and the judicial system by and large doesn't.
I'm speaking about the systemic views of our society in the sense that while a banker or a mortgage lender may regard a person of color as an individual but financial institutions by and large don't.
I'm speaking about the systemic views of our society in the sense that while a reporter or a journalist may regard a person of color as an individual but the media by and large doesn't.
It is the skewed societal and systemic views that are primarily responsible for stereotyping and criminalizing and dehumanizing people of color more so than everyday people like you and I - we're primarily just spectators taking in all the programming and propaganda and ultimately we decide for ourselves whether to buy into it or not but the reality is its being widely circulated and most spectators simply believe what they see and accept what they're told.
