To answer OP's question, we live in a $1M+ house near metro, and my husband rides it to and from work every day. We also use the bus a lot.

You sound a bit...delusional. Try riding the train everyday for a week. You'll see that most of the commuters are office workers, parents with kids, know-it-all college students/Hillterns, some smart-ass kids, and if you're really lucky - a barrage of tourists or Nats game attendees. Time to get out of your shell PP. Also eating fish is a crime now?

Great living near the metro with teens.
My kid takes metro and bus to go out on weekends with friends.
Also to an internship during the week.
There is no way I want to be stuck driving her everywhere.
Uber maybe but I don't love the idea of her alone in a car with some uber guy.
