This post depresses me, as a spouse who has followed her husband all over the world for work and still managed to scrape a career together despite the odds (moving frequently, foreign languages, needing to build networks again and again). You have no idea how easy you have it.

I'm a NYC biglaw type and I do agree that it can be a callous bunch esp. female seniors BUT most of them don't marry or if they do, they don't have kids until/unless they've made partner OR decided they won't make partner and have transitioned to whatever in house or govt job they want. They're planners. And if they get pregnant earlier than expected, they have no problem aborting if the timing doesn't work for their career.

On DCUM -- highly doubt it!? Women here expect dads to be involved 24-7, and I don't think many would think highly of a man who said -- I'm not leaving my biglaw firm no matter what, if you want to go, that's fine we'll divorce and I'll see my kid a few times a yr bc my career comes first.

I'm former Biglaw and I'm suspicious about this post. Something about it is evocative of the posts by that guy who cheated on his wife with the coworker, wouldn't contemplate a move to California for the wife's career, and was unwilling to stop working at the same place as his ex-mistress. I guess they both could just be massive narcissists too ....
