People from other countries do not necessarily eat better. They eat junk food too. However, they DO walk a lot more and use public transportation.

Of course. Some people only gain in their thighs/butts- they are pears. You sound like an apple. I've seen lots of women with skinny little chicken legs and giant round midsections- classic apples.
Anonymous wrote:Wow! 5'11 at 130 is super skinny like maybe too skinny. I am 5'9" and a size 2 or 4 and like others get commented on that I'm so skinny, thin, whatever and I'm usually 135-140. I would look anorexic at 120!
Anonymous wrote:Well I am 5 ft and 218 pounds, down from 233 just a few weeks ago and trying to get all this weight off. I'm just counting calories and moving more, nothing dramatic. I've never felt comfortable at this size but never felt comfortable at 110, which is about what I should weigh so don't have a goal in mind other than not fat ass.
In any case, I appreciate these tips and will incorporate them into my life. [/quote
Likewise. I'm 5'6" and used to weigh between 145 and 150, size 10. I always wanted to be thinner but I have an hourglass shape with big boobs and I was fit and athletic, and skinnier wasn't happening. Well, then I had a baby and now I would kill to be my old weight. I had a really hard time losing the baby weight even though I was nursing, I think because I had bad post-partum anxiety and couldn't sleep and ate sugar to make up for it. (Booze, fast food, soda, etc have never been an issue for me ... only sugar!) At one year post baby I was about 168. Started trying harder to lose it, got pregnant, but miscarried and gained 5 pounds. Same thing happened 6 months later. So now baby is 2 and I weigh almost 180, which is way, way too heavy, and I feel awful and gross. But we are still TTC. I am trying to change up my diet. I realized that I really let myself eat too much sugar during pregnancy and got into that habit and it's very hard to break. This thread is helpful in that way. Hoping if I can cut the sugar and stick to a low-ish carb (75 g or so per day), reasonable protein and fat diet, which is how I used to eat, that I will lose some weight and get healthier. I'm tired of feeling gross.

Are you pretty? Pretty women can be attractive without being super thin. I know lots of thin women that don't look as good as my heavier friends that have a pretty face/smile.
Are you pulled together? Stylish? Again, you don't have to be super thin to look good if you do this.
Unfortunately to guys if you have a thin body and a plain or ugly face you are a 10 in their book but a pretty face chubby body lowers you to a 5
Anonymous wrote:Those of you who say you don't or hardly snack, are you eating big meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner?

I skip breakfast because it makes me sick eating that early in the morning. A few years ago, I did try eating it everyday but it seemed to make me hungrier for the rest of the day.
Lunches normally are salads or chicken & veggies or sandwich w/ a piece of fruit or soup
Dinner is my biggest meal and most days it's meat w/ veggies and a potato or some variation
Snacks are usually fruit, celery w/ ranch dip, protein bars, protein shakes, chips, crackers, deli meat, candy on a rare occasion (not really a big candy eater)
Drinks are water and tea; not a big fan of soda but will have it every once in awhile
I will eat fast food a couple times a week; for example, if I eat it for lunch on Mon, I won't eat it again until dinner on Tues or lunch again on Weds (I do know this needs to stop and it was a habit I picked up in college; growing up my parents didn't allow us to eat it except for special occasions)
Well good news OP - you don't eat very well and a few changes will make a huge difference.
Stop with the chips, crackers, ranch dressing, candy for snacks. In general, don't snack.
Stop eating fast food except very special occasions. Not weekly, not monthly...a few times a year.
How do you do this when there is a plethora of exotic and delicious cuisine in the DC area and being social here usually means eating out?
What does that have to do with fast food? When you eat out, order carefully off the menu and eat small portions.
Don't go to McDonalds.

Yeah, this is BS.
agree
My mother also enjoyed saying it to me, and it became a fabulous comeback when anyone was concerned about me having an eating disorder, like her.
It's not a good thing to say or believe. Imagine saying "Breathing oxygen doesn't feel nearly as good as the high you get when you're suffocating!" People do need to eat food. Food is not the enemy.

Cool and congrats- but please dont post because 1) We dont care 2) this thread is not for you, it's for women who have to work at it and have tips to share
Well this is awkward.
Many women who are thin are thin due to genetics. It's important to realize this because all the starving in the world can't change your genes. Focus on being healthy and dressing right for your shape, not being "thin."
I was thin my whole life, eating whatever I wanted but small portions, until my thyroid crapped out on me and I put on 25lbs (25% of my starting body weight). I could hate myself and starve myself to be "thin" again. Instead I bought clothes that fit and flatter me, and eat healthy.

I think it's how you carry it. I'm 5'8 and 112 and no one ever says I look too skinny.
