I think to a large extent, this depends on the conservative family. Some Beauvoir families are uncomfortable with the racism and xenophobia expressed by Trump and Cruz. If you are a Trump or Crus supporter, you are likely to feel uncomfortable expressing that support at Beauvoir, which has a diverse student population that includes immigrants and minorities.

We are a conservative Beauvoir family and have been very welcomed and have made great friends. With that said, as someone who grew up in Washington as a contrastive, I'm used to feeling marginalized, judged, and having my views met with intolerance. Sadly, I think it's more of a DC thing then even a private or Beauvoir thing. Most of my friends are liberal and I respect their views but have found great liberal hypocrisy in the lack of respect from liberals of my views--the very one's who espouse tolerance. Getting back to Beauvoir--I'm sorry to hear that someone was made to feel bad about being conservative. Hopefully, it was an isolated incident. I hope I get to meet whoever feels unwelcome so he/she can see their really are other's like them at the school.

Very true, and our plan is to go into our backup plan in the Fall with the belief that it is where DC is meant to be. We did like the idea of having somewhat of an advantage for the Cathedral schools at 4th, but we also don't know this early that it would be the school of choice either.

Beauvoir is a great school, but no place is perfect. The schools where people who don't get into/choose not to go to Beauvoir end up are wonderful schools in no way lacking compared to Beauvoir -- except maybe in terms of the playground and Cathedral school admissions at 4th.

Hello. I am sorry you did not get a spot. I would call the admissions office and ask politely whether there is any hope of a spot opening up for you and let them know that if one opens up you will take it. Good luck.

Beauvoir first goes to its waitlist in March when deposits are due, However, a number of people put down deposits but then later decide not to attend. The tuition deadline is in July, so theoretically you could be admitted off the waitlist through then. However, most of the waitlist movement will occur in Mach and early April.

We are a Beauvoir family and love it. However,mplease know there are many wonderful schools out there where your child will also thrive.

Thanks. We do have a backup that we paid a deposit to. We are however prepared to walk away from it if we get off the WL. Worse case scenario we will reapply again next year. We think we got so close but no cigar because our DC is a late birthday 4yr old (right on the line of meeting the age cut off for PreK). But DC is mature (at least to us) so we hoped it wouldn't count against us. Who knows. Of course you run through a million scenarios about why something might have happened.

Come to a place of peace with the other school. Beauvoir doesn't love to take a young birthday and in any event the wait list has settled. If the other school is a good fit for your kid, don't yank them out next year just because you have decided that Beauvoir is where YOU want to be.

Do you mean a "late" birthday? In any event, I hear you. I will come to peace with it. Of course if DC loves the school and is thriving we definitely won't change courses. We got a better vibe at Beauvoir (as evidenced by so many of the comments on this thread) so it has been hard accepting it's not our path.

Several of the top schools have spots for 4th grade and the Beauvoir students that do not choose STA or NCS end up there. Most Beauvoir students end up at their first choice school every year.

It is not completely useful information most students at their first choir school, if by most you mean more than half then that is technically correct. But I personally know 7 parents my year whose kids are not a first choice. This includes kids that did not get STA/NCS but wanted it and those that ended up at NCS because they did not have other options.
