White yuppies are not looking to work for USPS or DC Metro or UPS or in HR, you can't afford to live in NW DC or any "acceptable" neighborhood with those jobs.
Idiotic post - plenty of GS-15 and SES HR folks alongside GS-15 and SES Legal folks in my neighborhood living in reasonable 800-1.2 m houses....
Sorry but that is not the norm for HR. Most technical jobs pay more than HR. Yes there are some here in fed jobs making the GS 15 but there are plenty in the GS-11-12 series. Then in private industry those jobs start around $45k-I know because I've applied to some of those jobs. The pay isn't up there with law, medicine and even accounting/finance.
You're insisting it is not true and yet offer no data--in point of fact federal employees in the 0200 series (HR) average higher salaries than those in IT (2200 series)....your turn...
Since you have the same access to Google as I have I will throw you this. Your circle of neighbors and friends does not account for overall industry knowledge. Let's remember that people in the DC region also work in private industry. There are many that visit this board from many regions and even 30-50 miles outside DC.
This is from the BLS--which is solid governmental data:
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/computer-and-information-technology/home.htm
The vast majority of tech people in agencies are actually contractors that work for the big firms like Lockheed, GD, etc. They actually do make more than the federal workers but are subject to layoffs if a contract ends.
Here are the salaries for HR professionals:
HR Specialists
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/business-and-financial/human-resources-specialists.htm
HR Managers
http://www.bls.gov/ooh/management/human-resources-managers.htm
Now, if you want to get more into this know that there are more specialist than managers, then there are plenty of assistants and those lower end jobs pay less than comparable IT jobs. (especially starting out).
If the job paid so well then you would not see an abundance of women and minorities in the field. Money motivated people don't gravitate towards the HR profession, it is seen as a staff 'support' role-it does not drive the organizations bottom line. These positions are seen as expendable when a company needs to save money.

Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I hope I'm not burned for this, but I have wondered the same thing. I think AAs are culturally more likely to be "people persons" and outgoing people and that's what HR attracts. My Fed HR is 80% black.
That's a good point. There's always exceptions, but if some groups tend to be weaker on average in math, reading, analysis, leadership, sales...then going to HR is a good niche to fill. They are not going to get into engineering or management.

And, of course, there's only two categories of folks living in DC: AA and white yuppies. Latinos, Asians, and poor whites don't exist. Wow, sometimes DC provincials are truly scary.
Well there are Latinos at the USPS, I've never seen an Asian bus driver, I doubt that's even acceptable to do as a job.
There are no poor whites in DC in any zip. There are some in MD/VA.
Try again.
There are poor people in every city in America and you know that. Stop acting dumb.
+1.
And there's also poor Latinos, and poor Asians, and poor...
But PP doesn't know, or doesn't care. Everyone in the city is either AA, or a white yuppie.
Thank God AAs are already losing their monopoly power in the city.
So you got an answers or not?
Where are the poor white people? The true uneducated, on welfare white folks?
They live in the Upper North east part of MD. And around Baltimore- Dundalk area.
I previously stated that poor whites live in MD.
I'm asking where true poor whites live INSIDE DC. Not MD.
Not the college kids but true poor whites.
They won't have answers because they've been backed into a position they can't genuinely defend. I'm black, grew up in the projects of DC and seeing a white person in similar circumstances was EXTREMELY rare. This still applies today.
Congratulations, black people. You have the monopoly of poor folks in the city, and are rightly proud about it. I commend you for your continued efforts at ensuring your children retain such privileged position in the projects, if not in jail or in the mental health system.
Signed,
Another minority who cannot believe the stupidity of some DCUM posters, apparently black
Why does stating facts make you so defensive? Instead of posting asinine crap, would you care to tell us where poor whites are in the Metro DC area? Do you have an answer? Are you totally ignorant of how black people CAME to live in DC?
WTF would want the monopoly on being poor anywhere? You sound like a dumbass.
Dude, go get a brain upgrade. You are obsessed trying to make the point that in DC there's only blacks and "white yuppies."
Look, this is the latest data, as of 2013, of who lives in the city:
- 49% is Black
- 36% is White
- 10% is Hispanic
- 4% is Asian
Please share your fascinating evidence showing how 51% of non-blacks are all "white yuppies."
Your stupidity blinds you.
What does showing the racial breakdown of DC have to do with the income disparity? What an idiot.
Given your math skills, perhaps you work in HR?
That racial breakdown is enough to debunk previous PP notion that anyone living in DC who is not black is a "white yuppies."
14% is other minorities, people who don't seem to exist in PP's mind (or yours).
Then, from the 36% who is white, I am waiting for PP to show proof that all those are "white yuppies," regarding of their age, income level, education...
PP seems to have a very small group of friends and a very narrow of the city he lives in. Typical of so many DC provincials...
Damn, you're dim. Are there poor white people in the Metro DC area or not? Either give proof or STFU. You sound like an idiot arguing a point no one is making.
