OP isn't racist, just horribly informed. I love when people think they can solve the world's problems (because no one had the idea before you!) by changing/centralizing/mainstreaming a process. Don't you get that more programs and assistance spring up because of GAPS. They are rarely, if ever a proactive step, but rather a responsive measure.

Do you think charitable organizations and non-profits are sitting on food pantry items for weeks on end that are rotting from lack of attention and takers? No! They are overwhelmed and over-run by need.

For the record medicare/medicaid fraud is usually on the part of billers (DOCTORS) so they are the beneficiariesar of the fraud, not the recipients...No one is getting rich or even middle class on welfare. And BTW, welfare is a collective of benefits, not some big check people believe folks receive.

Like I said - ill-informed.

Most people feel the same as OP. They are just afraid to say so outloud.

I once told my "friends" at dinner that I wasn't in favor of increasing taxes ANNUALLY to increase the school budget ANNUALLY to pay for things like ipads for entire grades of kids, or random sports that like 8 kids play. I said I WAS in favor of maintaining small classes and teacher raises.

They looked at me like I was suggesting we all drown kittens.

Food stamps? PP is a troll. People who are actually "on" public assistance receive an electronic card colloquially known as an EBT card. No one uses the term "food stamps" nor have they for decades.

Race had nothing at all to do w/your statements OP.

Unless of course, you were giving a speech at an NCAA meeting.

All kidding aside, whoever said that to you is nuts.

However I cannot say that I agree entirely w/your political views on Public Assistance.

Some people have no family or life net so they have to seek help from the government. Those that do receive some form of assistance usually live the lives that no one else wants to.

Meaning, they have to live in a housing project & endure crime, vandalism, noise and chaos.

They also only get a limited amount of food stamps per month which usually is enough to feed them for half a month.

And Medi-caid is less than ideal. It's next to impossible to find a decent Dr. who accepts this form of health insurance.

Everything in life has a price tag. Just because something is free, does not equate it being a walk in the park.

Sure you can hate people on welfare, but consider also the fact that for some it all depends on surviving at the bare minimum since welfare recipients live way below the established poverty line.

And the real victims of this is not the tax-payers, it is the innocent children who go hungry and cold.

Unless she is leaving something out about WHO she indicated vis a vis benefits, and WHO might be creating a fraud system, I am seeing absolutely no racism here.
But- interestingly enough, if the person who called her out for being racist assumed[u] that is what she was referring to- a population of people taking advantage, wouldn't that make that person a racist for (for that assumption)!?

OP- call out that person in a quiet conversation sometime. They were extremely out of line considering this was a social event and personally, I would not let it go. If they have an assumption here, then call them out for being racist- and stupid!

If people categorize/stereotype a specific group of people in any way, that is racist. I don't see where that happened here. Poverty, fraud, crime, etc. comes in all flavors, colors, and cultures. Deciding how people can have benefits, when it is best served, and how to control fraud is not racist.

I am the Conservative who posted earlier. There is no doubt in my mind that she is leaving things out and her OP and sock puppeted responses are HUGE red flags for me. I have had these types of discussions too many times to take her posts on face value.

Interesting though that OP offended someone yet you would have her approach the person as if she is the victim. Perhaps, OP should try to UNDERSTAND why her comments were offensive. I tell you what though...if you offended me and then approached me like you suggest, you would "get a good cussin" as my grandma used to say.

Yeah, Conservative PP, her friend did insult her by calling her a racist. So you think her offended friend is off the hook because he or she felt offended...and that supports victimhood? No, sorry.
