Keep in mind DC cutoff is usually 2-3 pts higher than MD and MD's cutoff is usually 2 pts higher than VA and, therefore, DC's cutoff is usually 4-5 pts higher than VA.

I bet all of 41 out of 100 kids are magnet kids for Blair and RM. Crazy numbers.

I was going through this last year. My child's school didn't give out the letters till the last class on the last possible day. We would have liked to have known earlier, but in the long run it really doesn't matter. Good luck to those waiting!

OP here. Thanks to the TN poster reporting a 212. We also have that score reported on College Confidential, but I'm not sure if we know that 212 is state cut-off. Do you happen to know if 212 is the cut-off, perhaps as told to you by the school principal or GC?

Thanks to the PP who posted a list of prior years' scores by state. We're seeking the cut-offs for Class of 2016, so those scores are not reflected in that list, unfortunately.

There are several East Coast parents & students on CC who would love to know state cut-offs before the Labor Day weekend. If anybody can help with that, I know they'd appreciate it.

ah ok. So it seems other PP's are right. It is a policy aimed at making sure not too many asians 'spoil' things.

NMSC has been designating semifinalists the same way for decades, since long before the more recent increase in numbers of Asian Americans. They want their competition to represent all 50 states and the method they use assures that every state is equally represented.

And I think this is perfectly acceptable methodology.

Not that I know of... Why?

Curious - why are states with the lowest scores the ones fighting common core the most?

Aren't thess the same score cut offs from the 70s? If so, it is not about the asians.

The score cut offs are about having a proportional representation from all of the states.

Itis more about ensuring kids from Mississippi and Louisiana get an opportunity to be represented and very little about keeping asians out.
