I keep coming back to this thread because I just can't believe it! All of that horses--t that everyone was throwing out about how he was just a kid and he's been forgiven for past mistakes, etc etc and he was gorging on porn and extramarital affairs.

These stories are examples of the IMPROVING morals of our country. This type of behavior is less accepted than it was. It gets tremendous play in the media and the men who engage in it are being called out. 50 years ago, no one would have reported this and the men who engaged in it would have gotten away with even a slap on the wrist.

Right because Anna at all has the paradigm to do any of this. Divorce is incredibly frowned upon in her religious environment. She would be blamed and ostracized. She has no education outside of whatever garbage her parents "taught" her in home school so how the F is she going to be a nurse or engineer? She's been taught the most important thing is to be chaste and proper so she was and in return her scumbag husband who demanded she be chaste and proper looks for "steamy affairs" on Ashley Madison all while she's pumping out and caring for kids as their beliefs tell them is her duty. Poor Anna is probably dealing with a crisis of identity and the faith she relies on to get her through this is the very reason she's in this mess so that's a mindfuck. It's not so easy to just say "Anna should get child support and go to school and work!" NOTHING in Anna's life experiences have prepared her for that.

She lives in America. She knows all of this stuff is possible because she isn't THAT isolated. At the very minimum, she knows all of this because her church preaches against all of it every day of her life. She knows people in her church community who have gotten a divorce. She knows that divorce lawyers exist and what they do. She has a brain in her head. The only thing keeping her there is HER. She chooses this life and she chooses to support her tool of a husband. Her victimization is entirely of her own making. If she's too dumb for school, there's always welfare and child support. When the welfare runs out, she can get a job checking groceries at the Piggly Wiggly.

I can't feel too sorry for her. She helps promote the same hateful, conservative agenda that he does. She stayed with him after she learned that he was a molester. If she chooses to stay, then she is just asking for more of the same. Suck it up, buttercup.

Actually, you are incorrect. These things have always gone on, but secrets were easier to keep. Like who on the street is being beaten unconscious by their husband, and what poor black kid is being beat on by an impatient cop. Now, they are being caught and shamed. From the data I've seen, morals are actually improving in the country. I think when you say "the way things used to be", you mean "the days when it was easier to conceal bigotry, cruelty, adultery and ignorance, and thus ignore it"
