Lots of contractors: lawn services, painters, etc. hire them. I would be the people who work on the garbage collection are not all documented.

+1. If my family is paying taxes, anyone we employ had better be paying them, too! Not to mention, there are plenty of people in this area who hold security clearances. For many of those workers, hiring an illegal immigrant and paying under the table would be grounds for immediate termination.

There are people who watch their children and wash their dishes and mow their lawns. This is called the middle class. People in DC don't understand this. If you have plenty of money, you need to be hiring legally and paying fair wages with benefits. If you don't have enough money to hire legally, you don't have enough money to hire out "your work". Don't make the rest of us pay.


Our landscaper is a college-educated individual who is almost certainly not an illegal immigrant. Same for our go-to contractor.

There are people who watch their children and wash their dishes and mow their lawns. This is called the middle class. People in DC don't understand this. If you have plenty of money, you need to be hiring legally and paying fair wages with benefits. If you don't have enough money to hire legally, you don't have enough money to hire out "your work". Don't make the rest of us pay.

As a child of a naturalized citizen and having seen the hoop legal immigrants have to jump through to maintain their status, I agree with you 100%

I agree. It's horrible for them. The solutions are at much higher levels . . . the immigration issue has been ignored by Congress. Getting these people to be legal would be great for all concerned. As it is, they are exploited by people who are getting richer and richer. And the middle class is paying the bill. It's not sustainable. Hard reality.


They could be deported. That's hard reality too.
