Then towards the end of the show she ended up with that ugly bald schmuck? Haha, as if!
The whole point was that she did have men beating down her door for a while but she was too picky.
Then she got older and she had to settle.
The point was she didn't "settle," she realized there's more to a person than looks and breeding. She ended up with the best spouse on the show, rich, and happy.
+1. If you thought she was “settling” for Harry you either didn’t watch those episodes or you completely missed the point.
She definitely settled from her earlier expectations. That's the entire point? Just because you settled doesn't mean you can't be happy though.
She was very happy with Harry.
She only settled for him in looks. He had money and a high powered job. She wanted looks, money, high powered job. Settling for someone like her would be someone who had a more regular job and wasn't very attractive. She was always going to be with someone with money and status. When she started her relationship with Harry most of her complaints were about his looks/appearance.

She's beautiful, conservative, family oriented and the only date able person on the show.
Most women in NY get married in their early to mid 30s.
Women like Miranda maybe, women like Charlotte are married by 27.
Yeah. Charlotte would've locked down a guy in college and then gotten engaged by 24 and married by 26-27.
The rest of the girls and their plight was very believable. Especially Miranda. Yuck!
Most women in NY really don't marry that young unless they are orthodox Jews. I have many conservative waspy friends in Manhattan and don't know a single one who married by 26-27.
You are forgetting the time period of the show. My friends and I (late 80-early 90s high school grads) all got married before 30.
That's you. I'm in your age range and waited til late 30s.
Same. The only friends I had that married in their twenties were the ones who didn’t do any graduate education. Most of married in our 30s after getting law, medical or Ph.Ds.

Charlotte would have been conflicted because she knew she was supposed to want to be successful and independent even if she really just wanted to get married.
There were a million single CHarlottes kicking around NYC at that time period. There's even a name for that phenomenon where you kind of end up with a great career while you're waiting around for Prince Charming to show up -- the default career that you get by default. Lots of my female cousins ended up with those.

I think the thread is about the character, not the actress. Charlotte was traditionally pretty, marriage minded, and not particularly career oriented. It really didn’t make sense she was single.
She was very picky though. She only dated high status men with elite jobs.
But someone with her good looks and breeding would do very well with that set.
+1 she may get cheated on or even dumped once she got older, but some successful guy definitely would have married her before she turned 30.
But I’m saying she broke up with guys for dumb reasons. She could have been married earlier but she always found something wrong with a guy. She married a guy that was perfect on paper but definitely wasn’t the one. Harry really opened her eyes that she could love someone who was not her perfect on paper type of guy. Her whole storyline made sense from the beginning. She was desperate to look a certain way and be in a certain crowd. Even on her wedding day she struggled to enjoy it because she’s always been caught up with appearances. However, I think she grew a lot in the show.
