OP's point might have been fair if she had just asked Ward 3 families who do get into EOTP Pre-K to get involved in the school while they are there. There is nothing fair about just asking them to stay off what isn't really her lawn.

jeez, THANK you. I am a PP who called bullshit on the alleged problem of children living "JKLM" -- which I'll remind everyone is AU Park, Chevy Chase DC, Wesley Hts, Cleveland Park, Palisades, Forest Hills and Friendship Heights -- running all over the city and snatching up spots in ps3.

Excellent. Since it doesn't happen, Ward 3 families will not mind at all to having no OOB feeder rights at PK3 and PK4. Everyone is agreed then...

Many won't, a few will. Believe it or not, there are families WOTP who live in smaller houses for which they paid less than many EOTP, and it was still a stretch for them. They did it because they can't afford private and were too risk-averse to commit to a lottery system for school all the way through HS. But they will want to play the lottery for PreK. Fortunately, they have just as much right to do so as any gentrifier EOTP.

And you are out of touch if you think it's less disruptive to leave in 2nd/3rd. Like it or leave it that is where schools get their testing data from. You know- THE metric you all use to decide if a school is failing.
The problem is not some PS3 carpetbaggers that may or may not exist. The problem is an openly corrupt school district that bleeds money and resources at the top levels.

I think most people who leave at 2nd and 3rd often enter the equation with an open mind...Hoping the school will meet their student's needs and/or your expectations. When it fails, you throw in the towel but at least you had an open mind. It is entirely different when you show up for a year or two intending to return to your IB. That makes you a disrupter.

For age four, I have met two household IB for Murch who sent their kids -- interestingly, both families had twins -- to Hearst for pk4. One of these families did this about 8 years ago, the other, more recently.

Fight by anecdote! I know several Upper NW families that used public schools for PK3, and many who sent their kids to other schools for PK4 because they couldn't get into their IB school. So by my limited experience it must be a very common thing!
