No, but an engagement ring is all about promise. They rocketed way beyond promise and marriage and already have a baby. The ring is kinda beyond the point, wouldn't you say?

When we were able to finally get married after 15 years of partnership and kids (thanks, marriage equality!) you're damn right I wanted a diamond on my finger. It's the prettiest piece of jewelry I've ever owned and damned if I was going to pass up the chance to have a beautiful sparkly wedding set on my finger just because we didn't do things in the "right" order. And straight folks have the right to do it their way, too. Quit being the jewelry police.

No, I disagree (obviously). The engagement ring is a promise to be married. You don't get to day well we don't need to get married now since we have a baby. Marriage is a different step. And you also don't know why they decided to have a child before marriage and also, it's not your business (because you're not the Pope or God or anyone that matters)

i love jewelry. i love diamonds. always have, always will. unapologetic about my 2.5 carat ring. i don't judge anyone big or small for what they have. i know what i wanted for myself, though.

$90 ring poster again. I'm not playing the frugal smugness game and don't begrudge anyone else their jewelry.
I just like my ring, it fits our budget, and I don't worry about wearing it anywhere because if (...who are we kidding. When.) it falls off my hand somewhere, I'll be sad for sure, but it's replaceable.

Me too! I read an article recently on how the jewelry industry is the reason people feel they need the biggest and best diamond. It's all marketing. Most people don't realize that emeralds and ruby's are actually rarer and more expensive. I will ogle a beautiful emerald over a diamond any day. My sapphire may not be huge, but it's a beautiful deep blue and I love that my husband knew me well enough that he did not get me a diamond.
Emeralds and rubies do not stand up as well to daily wear as do diamonds.

Mine was close to this. $5,500 1.6 center stone, no visible inclusions and very good color/cut. DH purchased at a jewelry exchange in 2000. Much cheaper than at a commercial jewelry store. Another $1,500 for eternity band.
