Where did you find this nanny

Care.com

$9/hr for 3 toddlers? No way

Yeah - that's crazy (said as a mother of twins w/ a FT nanny.)

Unless she's a live-in and this is on top of full room and board, this is really highway robbery.

That can't be legal, can it? How can that include taxes?

It's illegal AND shameful. Really.

Minimum wage is totally legal and yes taxes were included in that amount.

NP here. Let's see. Minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. 40 hours @7.25=$290. 10 hours of OT @ $10.875 = 108.75. Total $398.75 wages per week. Assume 4 weeks, so $1595 per month. Add 13.65% for FICA (if you are paying both sides) = $1812.72 for 4 weeks. So, that is minimum wage.

No, it's not illegal folks. Immoral? Maybe, but if the employee agrees to it, then it's perfectly legal and adheres to the DOL FLSA.

$3k/month for 40 hour/week nanny for one year old. We are willing to suck up the extra cost over daycare for the added convenience (added to the fact the long wait list and total inconvience factor - we live in NW but don't work downtown).

this thread is real - and depressing. We finally have kids in aftercare only, great during the school year a shock to our systems during the summer.

$890/mo for aftercare @ public school
$2200 minimum each month of the summer

We pay $2300 per month in NWDC for daycare. We love it, but there is shockingly little available for the under two crowd in the area.

Same here, plus we pay her health care, guaranteed quarterly bonuses, and cellphone allowance. It comes to over $5k/month.

Good that you value (and can afford) high quality care.

Who wants to pay even higher taxes for your babysitting work?

We were paying $1800/ month for a 2 year old but now it's $625/month. All we had to do was move to Alabama. It's the most expensive daycare around and people complain about how much it costs all the time. They have no idea...

we have a SUBSIDIZED daycare through hubby's work. Even that is $2500 a month for 2 kids 22 months and 4.

Some parents pay less based on lower income. But that susidy tops out at a HHI of 50k.
