Nah, open adoption is pretty common these days which includes visits because it is recommended by psychologists and many adoptees themselves. Very few domestic adoption agencies will take on adoptive parents as clients who request closed adoptions.
As an aside, I'm not convinced that this new norm will stick as the "best" for all involved. It's certainly the current thinking, but I think in practice that over time the psychological drawbacks, both short and long term, of doing it this way will become more evident.
