So, sorry if you find it anticlimactic, but it seems the day went well. My DD says almost everyone went to school with shoes on, but took them off once they were in the classroom. She said everyone put on their shoes to go to the bathroom. I asked if the teacher suggested it, or if they just did that on their own, and she said she thinks everyone was doing it on their own because it'd be kind of gross to go in there barefoot. (see, kids can make some good decisions on their own!) She said she did not hear the teacher say anything about it. My daughter also put her shoes on for recess, though I don't know how many did that. It definitely got the kids talking about some issues. Of course, for some kids (like my son) it was a non-event. He wore his shoes and didn't think much about the kids not wearing them.
I rather wish everyone could have really gone for it, and gone the 24 hrs barefoot. Though of course I would have washed my daughter's feet when she came home. (I did anyway.)

How so? I know something about that school and their uptight administration. I think it's a sign of growth and flexibility that they could do this instead of quashing a kid-driven idea because of fear of law suits.
