Our school used the system in an almost abusive way in K and 1st grade.
It was awful. The same boys--always boys--stayed on the red, their names visible to all of their classmates--every day.
Obvoiusly, the system didn't work, or those same boys would never have been tagged Every Day!! In the red, no less.
When my son came home one day, having been put on the board (he hit red a couple of times) it shredded his confidence.
Our new school ditched the 'light' system several years ago. It's one reason we chose the school.

It's time to get rid of clip charts and similarly stupid, non-research based methods of behavior management and start training teachers to better understand children. And there is a great system - Responsive Classroom - if only more teachers and schools would use it.


Yes! I hope more and more parents will become aware of this system, already used at many schools, and start requesting that their school's teachers implement it as well!
