This happened to me some time back. Both the H and W were old friends from university/graduate school. She confessed to a deep love affair with her soulmate, a married, older colleague at work. I told her H, a wonderful guy and successful man who was from a wealthy family. He was devastated, but since they had no children yet, he decided to file for divorce. She tried unsuccessfully to pursue something with the man at work, but he would not leave his wife. She had to eventually leave that workplace, and has never attained the position she desired. Her ex-H is wildly successful and happily remarried. He and I are still great friends because he knows I have his back. I encourage people who know for sure to consider telling the aggrieved spouse if you think they can handle the truth.
