Stop patting yourself on the back OP. You are a terrible friend and a sorry excuse for a human being.

When I see a post like this, I feel many emotions. Mostly I'm just thankful I'm not so stupid and closed minded. Good luck with your future, weirdo child-like person who thinks life is black and white.

Yes, I am closed-minded to the idea of killing babies.

A society that has no respect for the most innocent of lives is a very dangerous society.

So do you also condemn those who do IVF?

Pro-life poster, why do you keep avoiding this question? Did you yourself murder babies as part of the cost of getting the family you thought you deserved?

I'm pro life and don't consider that abortion. I guess we all have our own comfort level. Personally, I'm ok with the day/week after pill too.

So 0-7 days of life is fine. But 8 days? No, that's sacred. Seriously?

The decision to become a parent is HUGE. Would you ever want to be *forced* into adopting an unwanted baby?

12:02 again. No one forces anyone to adopt so I'm not sure where you are coming from with this. If anything, parents who wish to adopt wait a LONG time b/c there are, seemingly, not enough! And I did adopt one with special needs and our next one will have special needs too, and we are still waiting a LONG time, so don't tell me I just wasn't open to kids with special needs or some such thing.

There are 130,000 kids in the foster care system in the United States currently awaiting adoption. This is why I would always choose abortion over adoption.

Well, I've adopted one and am waiting for #2. What have you done about it?

Also, you do realize, as a birthmom, YOU make the adoption plan and select the adoptive family? Or, you never looked into this or considered it?

12:02 poster back. Yeah, I've gotta say PP (the one I've bolded above), ou sound pretty inconsistent. I am the one who did give all our embryos a try by going back and doing multiple FETs, and I think you sound like a hypocrite. When the pedal hits the medal, you've got to practice what you preach.

She and a lot of people. Her voice won't drown out the extreme voices on either side. These women suffer silently and when she talks about it, it will be taboo. Her pro life friends will drown her with crap about Jesus and her pro choice friends will trivialize her feelings. Those with good professional experience like some OBs can understand. The pain is immense and she will never stop thinking about her child, her little friend, who only she knew.
The extreme views make it hard for any logic to come into this. In the end there are women who are being hurt by a system that refuses to be intellectually honest. There IS post abortion stress, no different than PTSD. And for some women, that is not worth it, they would have rather struggled with the child than live through that. And these are NOT religious people, they are just humans with normal emotions.

OP here. This is the category my friend falls into. She has always considered herself pro-choice but didn't think she could ever have an abortion personally. Then she got pregnant at a very inopportune time in an exceedingly bad relationship and health situation, and she made the choice that would spare the child a lifetime of difficulty. It was heartbreaking for her, and I doubt she will ever forget about the little life that was inside of her. There was another young woman in the waiting room who was also there to have an abortion. She started chatting with me while my friend was in the back. She was perfectly upbeat and it was pretty clear that this was just like any other doctor's appointment for her, she was just bummed that her boyfriend couldn't get off work so they could go to Five Guys after. There seems to be a huge range of feelings women have about this procedure. It doesn't do anyone any favors to diminish or hyperbolize the degree to which something like this can weigh on a person.

Why didn't she consider adoption?

Yeah. I am the 12:02 poster. Why DIDN'T she consider adoption? Why don't MORE women in this situation consider adoption? I am an adoptive mom of one, waiting on #2, and wonder this CONSTANTLY!!!!

Yeah, I don't buy this at all. Do you know any women who've had abortions? Other than those who come to your church or who you've met at pro-life events?

This is funny. My resonse was neutral. I am an atheist and I can'tstand the religious right. I just know a ton of women who suffered in silence. Some have spoken to me because they know that I understand PTSD and they know that I am not religious. NEVER been to church, never been baptized, married another atheist.

Well, the part where you said "The pain is immense and she will never stop thinking about her child, her little friend, who only she knew," made me scratch my head, because that is 100 percent not my experience. I just asked a friend about this and she laughed and said she never would have made it to medical school if she had had a baby in college. I'm sure that you have met people who have regrets, but I think that it is fair to say that most women do not. In fact, I think C.E. Koop did a study on this back when he was Reagan's surgeon general.

Most women wouldn't laugh and make light of an abortion, either. Not regretting terminating a pregnancy is NOT the same thing as being happy about having done so. Abortion isn't fun, it's actually pretty traumatic. It's not like getting a tooth pulled, a wart removed and never thinking about it again. Most women would consider it a pretty big deal of a decision even if they think it was the right decision for them at the time.

NP. And please tell us how you feel about the baby-killing bitches like me who have terminated ectopic pregnancies.

Another pro-life poster. Aborting an ectopic pregnancy is nothing like aborting a normal healthy pregnancy. Do you honestly believe that pro-lifers would view it the same way?

And yet abortions twenty weeks and later are exclusively done because the fetus will not survive pregnancy or because the mother won't, yet you guys scream and holler and carry on like women are just a-changing their feeble minds in the third trimester or for fun or bloodlust. You know nothing about the issue, use inflammatory and incorrect language and wonder why pro-choice people get testy with you.

The are not EXCLUSIVELY done because the fetus will not survive. Although I do agree that most women that far along would not have an abortion unless there is something seriously wrong. Personally, I do not have a problem with women aborting due to severe health concerns relating to the herself or the baby. In my circle, I do not know of any people who consider themselves pro-life to be opposed to it under these situations as well. You seem to have a rather draconian view of what it means to be pro-life.

In your circle. You need to step out and read what anti-choice opinions are out here as a part of the mainstream. I haven't invented from whole cloth my "rather draconian" view; I base it on the actions and words of your group. From the nutjobs who post the personal info of OBs who provide abortions to the people who work at an everyday level to make abortion illegal, your group has made itself into extremists.

I am not the PP pro-life poster, in fact this is my first post in this thread, but I am pro-life and I also did IVF. We asked the dr. to make sure to create as few embryos as possible, and we got 5. We put 2 in the first time; it failed. We then adopted one (b/c I was sick of failure and just wanted to know I was getting a child). But we always knew we would go back to those frozen embryos and "give them a try." We did, and during the FET, we put in 2 also. Those did not work. I then prepared to do another natural FET, and was ready to go, but then they called me the day before and told me that the last one did not survive the thaw. I was very sad, but still felt like I had done "the right thing" by giving them all a chance. I do not feel like any human lives were lost in this process. We are now in the process of waiting for #2, also through adoption.

PP back. I wanted to add: this was very difficult mentally, emotionally, and physically on me, to give those frozen embryos a try. The entire ART process was, and I felt like I was going back down the black rabbit hole all over again after adoption #1, when we decided to try for #2. But I did it b/c it was important to me. I had to go off anti-depressants which complicated the matter and probably painted the whole process in a darker light than it should have, which also probably explains why I hated the whole ART thing in general. But again, it was important to me, so I made all these sacrifices (financial sacrifices also) to give these embryos, human lives, a chance. FYI: our clinic (GW) did not do gestational carriers, and my sister even offered, but that wasn't an option to us b/c of GW's rules.
