Cats in the Cradle by Cat Stevens

Since this song has been mentioned several times, I want to mention that it was Harry Chapin who wrote it (and Cat Stevens never sang it).

Cat's in the Cradle. I cry every.single.time I hear that song and then feel like a shitty mom for the times I've dissed my kid ("can't right now...") to go do something else.

Agree with so many above (and, dude, we old Indigo Girls fans).

More:
"Up the Stairs, Into the Fire" -- Springsteen
"Deep Dark Truthful Mirror" -- Elvis Costello

Happy tears:
"I'm Yours" -- Jason Mraz (first time my daughter smiled was to me singing that song)
James Taylor -- Carolina in My Mind, Sweet Baby James
John Denver -- Country Roads! I know, I'm a dork.

Did you know George borrowed the opening lyric from his friend James Taylor? "Something in the Way She Moves" by JT is also a pretty great song.

PP here -- thank you for that back story about Something. It became one of my Dad's favorite songs, and every time I came home to visit he'd ask me to sit down at the piano and play it. He was no singer, but I just got a kick out of how much he enjoyed the song. A very nice memory.
