I do think we could get by without FLES and FLEX. also the immersion programs.

The link between music education and math abilities is very strong and long documented. It would be a terrible idea to reduce the music education.

I concur that the AAP program seems to have expanded outside of it's original goals and could be adjusted back to the top 5% of the student population

Most of the AAP students would be bused anyway so the cited amount is a gross value vs. a net.

False analysis. AAP routes take the kids further from their local schools and require additional buses and drivers. The local buses are already in their neighborhoods. And, you totally forget that many would be walkers.

Yes, this is true. My child's center school is almost 6miles from our house.

AAP busing is a huge waste of resources. FCPS should realize that by now and keep these kids at their base schools.

Not in all parts of the county.

Perhaps it would make sense to do a county-wide change in boundaries to result in a more even distribution of AAP students. Such changes would help reduce both overcrowding and transportation costs.

Even the title of this thread is ludicrous: the "neglected" gifted child?? Not in FCPS. Nope, for some reason Lake Wobegon County thinks more and more kids qualify as "gifted". Let's divert ever more resources to them!

that's an idea: a gifted program for the gifted?

Uhhh... Exactly what is happening in NOVA

All our kids fit into one of two categories: gifted, or LD. Some are in both. None are in neither.

You do know that there are LD children in in AAP too, right?
