They don't necessarily have 4 slots available in all of the PK thru 4th grade classrooms. Many already have 16-17 kids.

So I just reread the entire thread of ten pages and still am uncertain of the basics. I gather from a one sentence post of approximately 4 words that the names were computer generated and flashed on a projector? screen? The school only had openings for Ps3. There were 2 openings per grade (or was it four -- 2 per class since they're authorized to increase class size to 17 from 15) but it seems all these slots went to siblings... ie the 1, 2, 3 and 4th grade open slots all went to siblings...is that right? Did the school actually computer generate the waitlists for the grades above PS3 at the lottery? Or did they say there were no openings for slots, and did not pull any names?

For those who attended -- how was it done? Names out a hat? Did they pull the names for the waitlist for K-4 during the public lottery? Or just did PS3??

Thanks! It is ridiculous that we are so stressed about whether our 3 year old got in -or not... But if I find a way to keep our little one in charter or public school for as long as possible I will be one happy Mom, I can't wait for this whole lottery business to be over.

Crazily enough, working with homeless families who can access computers through the library but don't have a permanent address, email is best for some. I think schools should do both, plus phone calls if people indicate that is the best contact method.

Given this is DC - and there is a significant part of the population for whom English is not a 1st language and not everyone has easy access to technology, a post card is a method that works for all.

This is not true. They did a charter size expansion specifically to limit the size of the school. Because of the model of the program, it needs to have small class sizes.

I just mean that some current families may drop out or not accept their spot because of the commute. It won't be convenient for some.

They did...PS3 was the only class with open slots and there were 34 (2 x17). There will be 2 classes of 17. 19 of those 34 were available to nonsibs.
