I love how this thread has been getting periodically resurrected for an entire decade now

A tangential note: it seems that semi-regularly people post here about something inadvertently sent down the drain.

I was listening today to a podcast on sewage testing for COVID detection, and they mentioned that on average it takes three hours for something sent down the drain to reach a sewage treatment plant.

So the lesson is, if something doesn't clog your pipes immediately it's probably not going to cause problems in the future. By the time you get to DCUM to ask about it it's probably already made it to Blue Plains or wherever your sewage goes.

I foolishly did this. No broom, hot water or plunger will fix this. You have to take apart the ptrap and clean it all out. Once you see how thick it is, you’ll understand why hot water wasn’t doing the trick. Mine even backed up into my dishwasher.

You pipe is clogged. There is a tool for that. Call a handyman.

My wife just did this …. I removed the p-trap and got as much out as I could, and then filled the sink with hot water and a bottle of Drano. It was cleared in 30 minutes.

Pour Miralax or thrown in come suppositories.
