Federal yearly spending per child: $3,822.
Federal yearly spending per senior: $25,455.
That is a big reason why people are angry at the Boomers. As another PP said, they hold most of the assets/independent wealth and yet they also receive the most in Federal subsidies.
I don't know, but has our country, our government, ever put so much of its investment in the elderly and not in the future (youth, job creation, innovation)?
Younger generations see that under the Boomers, pensions have been phased out, the cost of education has gone up above and beyond normal inflation, and even an advanced education doesn't ensure a job.
It's not about hatred. It's about angst.
I don't hate Boomers. And there are things that irritate me about pretty much every generation. Because let's face it, people are people. But right now, there is definitely an unequal distribution of resources in favor of the aging Boomers over all other generations. That causes tension and bitterness.

Let's have a little perspective on the "boomer watch" I was born in 1964, which makes me a boomer by one year.
*In 1969 a boomer walked on the moon
*In 1968 two were assasinated for being brave enough to try to change their world
*between 1969 and 1974 thousands of boomers left the country because they refused to be part of an unjust war. Because of them we have an all volunteer military and you can "travel the world" not go get killed in Afghanistan
* In the 1950's we legalized teh sale of the birth control pill, triggering the beginning of the sexual revolution. You are welcome !
* We invented Rock and Roll, the music industry, the sports industry
* we got rid of bill boards lining every inch of our nations highways
* we made sure black people could vote without getting hanged for trying
* we stopped calling them "negroes" and "colored people"
* we demanded equal sports for girls in all schools
* we put the fear of being sued into every pig operating against women in the work force
* we changed rape laws
* we got rid of the electric chair
* we started the exercize , fitness, and health food craze
* we invented the leisure skiing industry
* we eliminated small pox from the face of the earth and slowed the AIDS epidemic to a crawl
* we invented the cell phone, the computer and the internet

We have had six step-parents and 15 step siblings between us. No one paid much attention to us growing up. We went through college with lots of jobs, loans, and a little help from our grandparents. When we had our own children, our parents did not help out of baby-sit. They were too busy with their own messed up lives. When our parents got old, we ended up partially supporting some of them because they had been financially irresponsible. Thank goodness they had social security and in some cases small pensions. Because they were all divorced, they didn't look out for or take care of each other, so we had to take care of each of our parents separately. If they had stayed married then maybe the healthier one could have at least helped take care of the less healthy one.
Our children, millenials born in the mid and late 1980s, were raised in a stable home with two parents. We paid all their tuition and room and board for college, although we expected them to earn their own spending money through summer and occasionally term-time jobs. We helped them move to college and helped them move many times (something our parents never did for us: I was given a bus ticket and put on the bus with my suitcase). I signed lease guarantees for my children, something my parents never would have done for me. (I asked once when I was young and they said no.) I helped my children with their resumes and coached them through job hunting, something no parent ever did for me. I have also saved enough money for my own retirement so they will not need to financially contribute when I get old and sick.
Which generation had it bad?
Anonymous wrote:What a bunch of pathetic stereotypes. Those of us born at the tail end of boomers in the early 1960s are often still raising teens, dealing with aging parents, worried that we'll be the first to be laid off because we are now over 50 and never find another job, and can't imagine how we'll be able to afford to retire (so you Milleninals can ascend to your "rightful" place) .
I admire many things about the older boomers who helped pave the way for women in the workplace, pushed for environmental reforms (Clean Air Act anyone?), and performed truly great music (thank you Stones, Joni Mitchell and CSN).
So stop all the hate and be glad you're not as wrinkled as us yet!
We were in Mexico and driving behind a flatbed truck. Several young men were sitting on it without any safety protection. I asked DH if he would trade what he had for being that young again and he said yes without thinking.

Future generations were coddled and expect to have everything handed to them on a platter without making much of an effort. The only thing they should fault themselves for is not making their wimpy, whiny children tougher.

Is this just a case of younger generations thinking they have the answers and resenting their parents' ways or is there more going on here? I realize the Boomer generation has made a lot of mistakes but I don't believe we are the entitled, selfish folks were are made out to be? What do others think?

I don't buy it. Liberal boomers are just as vocal about not having any of their benefits, subsidies, et cetera, decreased.
