Sadly, we're never going to convince the "littles" people to stop. People love their dumb little catchphrases and cutesy little sayings for things. I grew up around women who insisted on pronouncing Target with a French accent ("tar-JAY") and who thought this was hilariously clever, for years. Some still do it. The people who constantly quote the Simpsons or Will Farrell movies. The kiddos people. The littles people. People are mostly unoriginal followers and they hear something that sounds mildly cute or funny to them and then they latch onto it. It's a ready-made personality. Most people are boring and this is how they make themselves feel like something. It's also why people wear t-shirts that say stuff like "first coffee, then the world" or "I brake for turtles" or whatever. People who make sports fandom half their personality. Or their alma mater.

We will never, ever get them to stop. But yes -- it's annoying.

First person I heard use this term was an elementary school teacher— a terrific person and outstanding educator. Currently is a Head of School at an East Coast private. I thought it was endearing because he said it with obvious affection for the students.
