How is it different? I just made one last weekend and didn’t notice anything. It was delicious. Dare I say my favorite dessert.

So this one time . . . . about ten years ago . . . . I was at the grocery store looking for canned pumpkin because it was that time of year. There was hardly any. I asked the employee what was up with that and this is what he told me:
80 percent of the pumpkins grown in the USA are grown in Texas. And the canned pumpkin you are at the grocery store buying in November is from p[umpkins that were grown the year before. And the reason for the canned pumpkin shortage that year was because there had been a big hurricane that hit Texas the previous year and wiped out much of the pumpkin crop for the year.

Anonymous wrote:What on earth has happened with canned pumpkin. I'm 65 and until the last few years, there was never any grit or sand in my pies. It's not from ingredients I add to make the pies, it is in the pumpkin in the can. I scooped out a spoon of the pumpkin to "test" it and it's got grit or sand in it. And it's not just one "brand". I have tried Libby's, Festal, HyVee and ShurFine store brands, and they all have it. I can't find any other brands to try in my area and have given up. I am really surprised that more people aren't complaining about foreign material/sand in cans of pumpkin and I won't buy it anymore.
