As a mother of a 7 yo with pretty moderate ADHD, this thread is scaring the crap out of me. He can barely get through one math worksheet now.
There is a huge difference between a 7 year old with ADHD and a high schooler with ADHD. I am an ADHD kid. You learn how to work with it, like channeling hyper-focus in a productive way towards school work.

yeah but 30 minutes for what type of kid? Mine is just slow, slow, slow at homework. Plods along, doing it well, but slowly. And this is always the way it was, even before any type of screen to slow her down. So what takes your kid 30 minutes takes mine an hour. It's still too much.
30min for all kids. The head of middle school and teachers say it. Once your 30min are up, you underline where you were and email the teacher that night to say where you had to end. They also have a studies skills class once a week that shows them what type of learner they are, how to organize, prioritize etc... They go to that study skills teacher privately if they are having problems completing in the 30min window and she helps them figure it out. It is well thought out to teach them how to focus to achieve. Obviously some kids including my own want to finish so they may go an extra 5-10min for one class but it is not uncommon for girls to show up with homework at 70-90% completed. If a kid is taking 60min for a 30min assignment, then at least they are aware there is an issue now.
Sounds like an excellent set up. I am impressed.

That is nothing! We read more like thirty to forty five pages a night for ap us.
You seriously thing a college level course should only assign 100 pages a week? If your kid isn't up for it, sign her up for regular.

In athletics, I had to practice a lot more than many of the other kids to master skills. I wanted it, so I practiced, and I actually got pretty good and ended up going further than the kids for whom it was easy. It's not such a bad thing to learn that you have to work harder than others to succeed -- that mindset can be very powerful down the road.
With that said, if she's doing the homework "too well" given the time commitment, can you talk to her about trying to be more efficient and not worry quite as much about how it turns out?
