That's exactly what happened. Poster 16:47 explains the new program implemented THIS year. Why not the other nine years when the scho had mostly native DC kids and not gentrifier kids?

So for the rest of us, let's just be nice, get along and focus on what really matters: our kids getting a better education, no matter what color or background they are.

I understand that particular frustration ... if that wait was motivated by what you think it is, whether benign neglect or willful, it is disgraceful. Utterly and completely.

Maybe to soften the blow, try thinking of the dc native kids who are still there and can benefit from it as well.

I'm a black parent btw .. and to not go crazy and scream at the heavens sometimes, I think in those terms (dont know whether that means anything to ya or not lol)

Oh, my God. You are out of control. Most of the kids come from Maryland, by the way, but that's a different story.

I know the scores aren't much to brag about, but they have been going up year after year, even BEFORE the implementation of the "new program!" I have to hand it to Bethune, they are working it out year after year with ambitious plans and high expectations for ALL of their students, whether or not there is gentrification.

As someone who toured Bethune I can answer that for you. This year, they are implementing a new program in the lower grades (to children of all skin colors!) which they hope will help raise their test scores. They estimate a raise in the next year or two.

What a crock! This whole thread has been about the "diversity" of the Pre-k, which we all know is code for more whites. Some posters have discussed the huge difference in the SES status between the PreKers and the kids in higher grades. So, now none of this matters. It's all because of the great changes that have been implemented. Sure.... I hope when you're alone and no one else is paying attention you can be honest with yourself 'cause you sure aren't doing that here. Shame on you, racist!
