Bottom line, great school, nice people, awesome sports and social scene, great natural setting. What's not to like?

These responses are so damn weird. Like, okay you don't think it's worth going to, unlike the other publics you mentioned. Others think it is! You don't seem to be able to agree to disagree. You have a negative reaction to people disagreeing with you. Extremely bizarre.

What are you talking about? Title of the thread is thoughts on Wisconsin for OOS. Gave my opinion.

We can afford and if there’s any perfect time to try living somewhere totally new, it’s college. DC didn’t want to go to school right in their own backyard. It’s a different experience and trying new things is appealing to many kids. What’s there not to understand?

Nothing. Didn't realize student wanted to relocate and do so for an extra $30,000 a year.

NP. Why do you care? You seem so angry (or jealous?) you didn’t save enough or don’t make enough money to give your kids a choice? There are lots of us who have enough money that our kids don’t HAVE to stay in state. Staying in state is fine if you want to or that is all you can afford, but lots of kids want to spread their wings and try out a different part of the country for 4 years.

PP. Neither angry nor jealous. I've saved enough to provide options. Inquired and OP responded.

That's why it's so desirable to affluent MoCo teens. Same for Boulder. Same for seattle/U of Washington. NOT so for Iowa city, Norman Oklahoma/u of Oklahoma or Texas A&M

It's the atmosphere thatis so alluring to the moneyed white folks in 20815 20816 20008 20817 20015 and 20016. It's not that a sociology degree from Madison is intrinsically and objectively more honorable than a sociology degree from columbus, Ohio (Ohio state).

I spent a summer at a program in Iowa City in the 1980s. It was a lot of fun back then, and, before Covid-19, it had a great job market. So it might be a good alternative for kids who are thinking of the University of Wisconsin and can’t get in there or end up with lower net costs at Iowa.

At least 2/3 of the readers in this forum are not from Virginia, and likely 1/3 do not have an "in state" school, and hence, why schools such as Wisconsin and Michigan are so popular on this website.
