club heaven and hell?
DECADES?
those weird pop up clubs in odd areas like near NY ave? forget names...
18th street lounge
the tune inn?
toledo lounge (still there)

And the best bar ever, in the world, KINGPIN (next door to the velvet lounge on u street / florida ave before it was even remotely safe or gentrified?)

Also I went to Republic Gardens all the time (white girl here)
And the lions den (reggae club on 18th street)

Omg. The Insect Club. I did have a great time there. Bartender named Psuicyde. Used to make great drinks. Yes, I also feel old.

Me too! I've really enjoyed this thread, it's bringing back so many great memories. I can go even further back since I was in college here in the early 80's. At the end of college we used to hang out at a bar called "Odd's," near GW.

This thread is kind of an amazing digital bread crumb trail, really. Many of these bars were very small places that were only popular for a very small wedge of time--many of us on this thread danced together, had drinks, and some serious relationships and so on and here we are reconnecting, anonymously. Synchronicity!

Wow, I feel old.

I feel like I must know you. I spent way too much time at 15 minutes and the Insect Club. Had a terrible drunken almost mishap at Tracks - friends saved me. Played darts at the Crow Bar. Hunt Club was still okay then. Went to Heaven and Hell a lot too. Married much later in life and DH can't dance, which makes me a bit sad. Now I dance with the kids, who are too young to be embarrassed by me yet.

NP here. I feel like I must know both of you.

Madhatter moved to Connecticut and went a little upscale (not totally upscale, but upscale from where it had been). Shame.

Camelot! With the yellow sign. Thanks.

Republic Gardens was great! And Takoma Station still exists. I'm still sad I never made it to the Ibex or the Black Hole (wasn't old enough to get in and didn't have any fake ID)

Different timing for me but I did love Polly Esthers and Lulus. That was late 90s, early 00s. Tracks was 80s/early 90s.
