Does anyone have any feedback on the Junior ROCS day camp at Lee District (Fairfax County Rec Center) especially for a 5 year old? Thanks.

"We've been there several years, and while there is a religious component, I haven't found it too overwhelming (we aren't observant of any religion, although it doesn't bother me for the kids to hear about Christ). They really do emphasize kindness, so we have found it to be a very positive experience, and the kids love it. The counselors are great, and they all seem to really enjoy being there. They all seem to know all of the kids, which I find incredible because it is a very large camp. I'd recommend trying it for a week to see what you think. "

I'm PP you replied to and I agree with all these points. For those who don't mind kids hearing about Jesus, it is a fantastic spot. For Jewish families or those who are strongly atheistic it would not be a good fit given the opening session that includes God/Jesus-oriented songs & skits. I did not get the sense that it's Vacation Bible Camp by any means but families who would be opposed to their kids hearing about Jesus should not pick this one. Anyone along the "Christian" to "couldn't care less" spectrum should absolutely give it a shot though.

I too loved how they broke the kids up into really small groups to make it feel much more intimate. I also loved the heavily wooded camp grounds and the fact that little kids have the indoor spot within the church to go to too. I thought it was a great fit for easing into camp given these factors but also that it seemed like they also had lots of cool stuff for the older kids.

Went there last yr and will use again this yr. DC LOVED it. It is pretty religious though. If you believe in Jesus it is fine and nothing super dogmatic. But if you are not christian it would not be a good fit.

We can't find a price information anywhere but from what we gather reading previous posts and from what the program purports to offer, it is expensive? Can anyone who has sent children there in the past give a sense (in dollars and cents) of what it costs to attend CONGO (and with potentially multiple children)? Thank you

Link to 2013 brochure: http://www.congocamp.org/documents/CongoCamp_2013_Program.pdf

With extended day, roughly $550/wk, depending on the specific program and options you choose.
