+100. I love her show and watch faithfully. I think it's the only one that is even the least bit realistic.

Is Design on a Dime still on?

I got into the Design Star big-time when it was on for the first time (with that hunky David dude who took every opportunity to stroll about topless) but now it seems kinda bloodless.

It's free on YouTube. I've just watched tons of episodes.
Most people build way too big.
Good show though.

Debbie Travis was great. Remember her?

Kenneth Brown-- also good, although his show wasn't around for long.

I do love Candice Olson, but I do get weary of her dusty blue/chocolate brown/sparkly lights & mirrors basement makeovers! I do really love her electrician, Chico, though. He is a doll.

Yes, HGTV is becoming more and more low-rent--- no pun intended. I would love a better home show channel. There is an opportunity for an enterprising producer there!

Love Chico!!

I think Fixer Upper is pretty good. It's a newer one, with only 8-10 episodes so far. I, too, like Sarah Richardson, as previous posters have said, but her shows are only on HGTV Canada right now. I think Income Property and Rehab Addict are okay. I don't like the shows that have some built-in drama, like Love It or List It, or even House Hunters, as the premise is all fake. And we all know it! So just stop making those shows like that, HGTV! I want a Cinema Verite HGTV, man!!! (joke)

I am ashamed to admit that I can watch Flip or Flop, and those awful little houses in the Valley, for hours on end. I don't know why but I get mesmerized by it.
I love almost all HGTV except for Flip or Flop. It is so boring and the hosts (man and wife's) are just horrible. The wife appears fake and insincere the whole time! what is great about this show? None! What do we learn from the show that we (just regular viewers) have not known already? Nothing! It is a shame having that in HGTV. Upper Fixer, in contrary, is fun and interesting to watch. The hosts and the family are such sweet people. They are great example of a nice family, great role model mom and dad. Besides, what they do ( Fixer Upper) is always amazing. Great hosts, good story, great show (Fixer upper).

"Flip or Flop" on HGTV needs to go. Now! HGTV has gone downhill since it brought in this show!

P.S. Love love love property Brothers! The transformation is always amazing!
There was a Flip or Flop marathon on yesterday and I wached about 4 episodes back to back and it seems like the same EXACT formula every time. They bid on a house, get a good deal and plan a budget. Some catastrophe happens that they didnt forsee (water damage, termites, pool renocations) and they go WAY over the budget. They always overprice their house because they are trying to account for the overages in the budget. And more often than not, the house sits for weeks without an offer. I really don't like that show at all.

HGTV, an American based network,
broadcast interesting design shows
for years, and now seems to show
mostly Canadien based real estate
makeover shows, which might be subsized
by the Canada gov. Is it possible HGTV
made cost cutting moves, and the
American designers once featured
are no longer part of the mix?

I miss the old Before and After show, with Pat Simpson, covering one whole-house remodel each episode. It was back before the housing bubble really hit, and before HGTV got so glossy and slick.

I also miss the House Hunters that didn't feel the need to gin up fake opposing viewpoints between the couples looking for a house.

I loved "Amazing Homes!" HGTV seems to be more remodeling shows now, and less showcasing interesting homes (I.E: Amazing Homes.)

I do like the show where the realtor takes the potential buyer to 3 homes (House Hunters?) ...but, I agree that it is scripted. In fact, I know someone who was on the show, and confirmed that fact... no surprise.

The international homes show is interesting, too.
