I think she's just stupid. I have my own ears pierced but I am well aware that it is only acceptable for cultural reasons. It is absolutely permanent damage to the flesh of my ears. And I think doing that to a small baby is outrageous. However, the reasoning behind it is very worrying and I do think that OP needs therapy if she's serious.
Actually, there could be damage. Babies should wear hats when in the sun, since their skin is so delicate and burns easily.
And I agree, her reasoning is messed up. Babies with light brown hair are perfectly lovely and no one is going to like her child less because she's not blonde. The OP has some seriously messed up ideas about looks that she needs to work on before they damage her little girl.

I think there is a big difference with doing thing for cultural and religious reasons vs. doing it because you think your child is not pretty enough with her brown hair.
PP said for non-religious reasons. Plenty of people circumcise so DS can look like daddy.

I think there is a big difference with doing thing for cultural and religious reasons vs. doing it because you think your child is not pretty enough with her brown hair.

Come on, it's also the "aryaness" of her pursuit that rubs people the wrong way. I've never heard of people asking for tricks to darken their children's hair.

Well, the OP has as much as said she isn't happy with how her daughter looks. Or she has said that she thinks she would look better/be more liked as a blonde, which isn't far off from it.
So it's more going on her words.
She is so beautiful I cry just looking at her sometimes. I was curious about highlights but it doesn't mean I don't like how she looks. API do worry about her having a more difficult time in life if everyone else doesn't think she is as gorgeous as I do.

OP, go for it. Put lemon juice in your baby's hair and leave her out in the sun. Then, when her delicate scalp skin fries to a crisp because babies really should wear sunhats, you can explain to her it's for her own good, because shallow people might not like her if she's a brunette.
