Why would you put your IB school at the top? Since it's your best chance you should put it last.


If Barnard is that person's preference, not putting at the top would be an awful strategy. Say, if the person put it in third and happens to get into Takoma, puff, he/she is thrown to the back of the waitlist at Barnard. What good would that do?
What you're looking at here is the list of someone whose preference is clearly his/her inbouds school (maybe they like it, maybe they have a second child who they worry would not get in even with sibling prefs at an OOB option) but who has some doubts that he/she may get in at Barnard and therefore lists a couple of likely OOB options to get in somewhere just in case.


Actually, with the new rules this year, you wouldn't even be included on Barnard's wait list on the above scenario. So it's absolutely critical you put your schools in the order you'd be happy with.

We are applying for PS3 and really want full immersion Spanish since our daughter speaks Spanish, so Bancroft is our top DCPS choice. We are also applying for charters and private. Good luck and may the odds always be in your favor!

It seems hard to believe, but according to DCPS documents filed for a Council hearing today, only one family was investigated for possible OOB violations last year.

I saw a kid being dropped off yesterday morning on Albemarle St. in front of Janney, from a car with Maryland license plates. (I know all the rationalizations -- one spouse lives in MD, maybe a caregiver. The driver appeared too young to be a grandparent.) Given the crowding at Janney and the fact that hardly any OOB kids from DC get in there, it would be pretty brazen and upsetting if there is residency fraud going on.

For PK4, really want Spanish. We're enrolled somewhere we could stay, so we're willing to gamble on not getting in anywhere.

In order:

1. Oyster Adams
2. Cleveland Dual
3. Powell
4. Bancroft
5. Marie Reed Dual
6. Lafayette (figured I throw a JKLMM in there)
