But now you want the rest of us to go along with it?? Add in the fact that many of us who "don't do Santa" don't celebrate Christmas, and we already have enough on our hands explaining to our kids why the shiny, exciting stuff in December is not for us. I'm supposed to also explain (to a child, mind you) that he's not supposed to tell anyone else about Santa? Wow.

For god's sake. First grade is when it happens. Max wasn't saying this to dispel your daughter's innocence. This is a very serious conversation among first graders, and they really are concerned about the truth.
This will be the first of many truths you can't protect her from. Get over it.
this about sums it up

It's so sad that there is such a lack of caring that some child's childhood belief in Santa can be ruined by some kid that thinks it's his right to dispel this belief. Please have some compassion for this childhood belief and don't let your kid ruin it for others.
Please!!!!

yep, and so are their parents.
A Jewish kid told my DD that her parents said that Santa, the Tooth Fairy, and Leprachauns weren't real. My DD shrugged it off and told me that it was too bad she didn't believe in Santa because she definitely wouldn't be getting any presents from him. I think some of the kids that like to spoil the fun for others are doing it because they are the type that don't like others to have fun if they can't have fun. Sad, but they often grow up to be people that can't dream.

+1 Except I was Max. Isn't first grade a bit old to still believe in Santa?
