She peed on the floor last night during the election. She runs through the house like an insane creature whenever she is out of her crate--She's out of her crate 6-8 hours a day. She gets an hour of flat out running and tussling with other dogs at the dog park every day. She never gives any warning that she needs to pee--she just pees. She is impossibly cute with a scruffy muzzle. I hate her but yeah, I am her slave.
Perhaps doesn't like spending 16 -18 hours a day in a crate?
+1000.
You have no clue. Do you even crate train? Probably not. Jacks are bred to go to ground to kill rats. Period. A crate is not a hardship for them--they are dirt tunnelers. She is a puppy still. My Jack is out 8 hours a day during weekdays PLUS an hour at the park. On weekends, she's out for 12-13 hours a day an 1.5 hours a day at the park. Crate training for the first year is essential--but then you are probably one those nuts whose house smells of urine and poo and insist that the chewing, peeing dervish be given free reign at all times.
First of all, you have not done your due diligence. JRT are "insane creatures" by nature. (There is a reason you see them in the doggy olympic type games and terrier races.) They like to run and exercise. A lot. They are VERY high energy. Even 5 seconds on the internet will tell you that. So, the fact that you are keeping her caged up, you are hot helping this dog and likely hurting her.
Second, I have crate trained. Multiple dogs. You're doing it incorrectly -esp for a JRT. Period. You don't need to have the dog -and shouldn't have the dog- in the crate for 16+ hours a day, jackass. I should refrain from things like I just posted but posts like yours piss me off. You come on here like some sort of expert when you are doing the technique incorrectly. In a couple of years -if not sooner- your dog will be in a rescue b/c you no longer want to deal with her and then someone else will have to reverse what you've done and do the heavy lifting for you.
She's never been in her crate 16+ hours a day--more like 10 or (12 on a bad dog crazy day). But thanks, you're wrong about your prediction, this is not our first rodeo with crate training or a terrier, we also have a 6 y o JRT/ border mix who is able to roam freely in our house. She was crate trained for 20 months using the same strategy--by 20 months or so she was crated 9 or so hours voluntarily--she would go in there to sleep. Now we use the same crate for our bonkers JRT.

Wait, Shiba inu is on my short list. I've been planning on adopting one. Can you describe the problems with their personalities?
I'm the PP that loves my shiba. They are really good dogs but their personalities are like cats. They don't really want to snuggle or be pet unless it is their idea. They also clean themselves like cats which in my opinion is a good thing because he's always clean and NEVER has potty accidents. Strong prey drive so you can't really do the off leash thing. Very loyal to the pack/territorial.
Thanks for this response! I didn't know that about the prey drive, but can live with it.
Aw, but why would you want a dog that doesn't cuddle? That's the whole point of dogs! I love the look of Shibas, but I'd be crushed if my dog regularly shunned me.
well, they've very intelligent, sensitive, loyal dogs. and they really are affectionate, just on their own terms.
OP about the Shiba Inu... This dog is very loved and well cared for, but she is the unfriendliest animal on the planet! She is worse than a cat. This breed is also well known for skin problems and allergies, I have spent THOUSANDS on her skin problems at the vet and dermatologist. Also terrible with kids... AVOID!! Next dog I'm getting a poodle.
