OP here- thank you for the thoughtful response. I don't believe I gave a disapproving look (or to look unfriendly - hard to do that while making baby sounds at my son), but I'll try to be more self-aware in the future.

OP here-- Thanks for your insight. I can certainly appreciate your anger and have a pretty good grasp of the stupidity that occurred in the wake of the Rodney King beatings in L.A. My question, however, concerns whether or not there are underlying issues here in the D.C. area-- if you, a representative of your community, tell me that lingering feelings from the L.A. riots contribute toward racial tensions here in D.C., then I believe you and accept that as part of a larger answer to what happened to me today.

These are all home-based daycares. In your original post you referred to "the daycare building." I can't think of any "daycare buildings between Cameron Station and Old Town just off of Duke Street," as you stated. I'm not buying this at all.
