I think the fact that there are 8 pages to this thread shows that people are just really tired and sick of how uncomfortable air travel has become on many levels. Although one thing has really improved- no more smoking on flights. I remember the days of the "non-smoking" section being one row behind the smoking section. Like that helped in a tight, enclosed space. I'd rather have the head of the person in front of me practically in my lap than have their cigarette smoke in my face for hours.

Do you think everyone should crouch way down in their seats in order to be considerate of your lack of height. That they should make themselves uncomfortable and put themselves out so that you are as comfortable as possible. Would you call them rude and get mad that they didn't slouch way down.

I don't think your movie theater analogy fits very well. ...

And why exactly doesn't the analogy fit well? I think it is perfect, and that you ignore it in order to avoid, once more, the discomfort you lead yourself into?

Really? OK, here are some examples of why that analogy stinks ...

1. A short person in a movie theater can choose to sit in any open seat. If she is concerned about the view, she can change seats at any time to improve her view. My ability to change my plane seat is limited by (a) my bank account, and (b) availability. And on most flights, I cannot change seats to get away from a recliner.

2. I'm not asking "everyone" or "rows of people" to change how they sit just for me. I'm asking just the one person in front of me.

3. I'm not asking the person in front of me contort herself, or "crouch way down in her seat," or "put herself out," or "slouch way down." Sitting upright is how we begin the flight and how we end it. And at least on the flights I'm on, It's also how most seasoned travelers choose to sit for the entire flight. Are you really suggesting that it's unreasonable to be prevented from reclining your airplane seat all the way back?

4. I'm also not unreasonably insisting that others completely adjust how they act, just to avoid any discomfort. I've made clear several times on this thread that if people want to recline slightly in a gentle way, I've got no problem with that. It's people who recline far back, and especially those who do it suddenly without checking behind them first, that bother me.

There are probably other problems with it, but those are the ones that immediately jump out.

At this point, I think you're just fucking with me, so I'll sign off. Have a good night.

It is your bias that stinks...

1. Similarly, you can go and seat in any open seat. No open seats? Well, that also happens at the cinema

2. As a matter of fact, you are. The person in front of you who now can't recline will ask the same to the person in front of his or her, so in practice you impact everyone ahead of you. Either that, or you are asking that one person be stuck behind a reclined seat yet in a straight seat for your comfort sake

3 and 4. Are you sure you are not daydreaming when you talk about not reclining "all the way back"?

A reclined seat beside an upright seat...just so we can see the 4.5" that is the foundation for this thread!

Most airlines now have seats that only recline 4.5" at the top of the seat. There is almost no recline at the base of the seat.

People are talking as though when your recline your seat it drops back 180 degrees on top of someone's lap. It doesn't. At most you lose 4/5" inches of space.

Does anyone who has participated in this thread find themselves worrying about what that says about their mental state?

Please post your net worth and annual HHI on a separate thread.

Betting your net worth is low and your HHI is high.

And to the person who alleges to be a seasoned business traveler where most passengers don't recline "all the way back", you just revealed yourself as anything but a frequent business traveler (or perhaps you haven't been on a plane in the past 5 years). If you were, you would never use the phrase "all the way back" to refer to the recline on a coach class seat, as you would know the seats these days recline at most a couple inches. There really isn't an in between unless you are thinking in millimeters. I will agree that reclining anytime before airborne (before you are technically allowed to) or reclining fast and hard all of a sudden is an inconsiderate move, but doing so at the appropriate time carefully is appropriate and expected and if you can't deal, fly spirit airlines please.

Perhaps said commenter is thinking instead of "the way back" of an Oldsmobile station wagon circa 1983.

The frickin airlines are making us sit like sardines in a can and make us pay not to with "economy plus" - blamed them- they keep making the seating more uncomfortable for the "privilege" of flying the supposed friendly skies.

It's definitely a dickhead move, but the world is full of dickheads (as this thread and site illustrate).

Well, princess, of course your comfort trumps all. I would think that an entitled snowflake as special as yourself would fly nothing but first class.

But it is what you are saying turned around----You are claiming that your comfort is all important and therefore I shouldn't lean the uncomfortably upright seat back. I've never flown when 2/3 or more of the plane didn't recline their seats. I'm not sure what universe you are flying in.
