It is not.
It's the future.
And as whites, we'll have to get used to being in the minority.
How is that racist?
When we're all brown, we'll find some other way to categorize ourselves - nose width, for example, or eye shape. something completely superficial - just as skin color is

I'm a liberal, and I think the same way.
In fact, in one course on multiculturalism I was required to take for my job, that very question was directed to whites in the class. ruffled some feathers - but not mine
made me think about it b/c it will be the reality
There will be no white privilege in the future, which is fine b/c we'll have a brown country by the time my kids are grown. They, however, will be fair-skinned beauties - standing out among the crowds. They will either be feared or revered - is my belief - and I don't like either option.
brings back memories of my first trip to my parents' hometown in Italy - I was as fair as could be - La Bionda - and people were in awe of my blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin. It was a weird feeling.
So what OP brings up is very real. Sadly, so many of you are way too PC to deal with a nerve that's been hit! So either learn now or suffer later b/c your white ass will no longer be THE white ass.
You may call yourself a liberal, but you're still an ass. I am white woman, a child of immigrants, and look forward to the day that we might live in a color-blind meritocracy. But we all know that power lies where money lies, and whether whites are a minority or not will be irrelevant for a long, long time. Oh, and if this so-called "problem" means that white idiots learn to be a little more accepting of others, and feel less entitlement or privilege simply by virtue of the color of their skin, then that's only a good thing.

Anonymous wrote:I have younger children, and it is stunning how color-blind they are. At first, I had the idea that they could just blend in with a multicultural society and all would go along fine. Over time, I have come to realize that it is not a good idea to sleepwalk through this transition.
For example, I want for my children to learn Spanish. I think that they will be shut out of whole categories of jobs, especially those dealing with the public. I am also concerned about negative depictions of whites in the media. Maybe there was justification at one time to depict whites as racists in the media in order to end prejudice. With whites as a plurality and then a minority, this seems to serve mostly to promote hate against whites. White children are also given last preference over minorities for jobs.
The latter be a serious problem in the federal government, for example. The President suggested that they shouldn't be hiring whites at all because Hispanics are over-represented.
I don't think that our generation knows what to expect, and certainly not our children if they are younger (which is the group I'm concerned about). Some strategies that I've considered are:
1) Learn Spanish
2) Learn about other cultures (so as not to offend and to understand their perspective)
3) Consider becoming involved if civil rights are violated
4) Consider careers where preferences for those other than whites will be less significant
5) Consider what happens when a group becomes a minority, especially a groupt that has been successful. Jews were very successful in Germany before WWII but were resented for it.
These are just a start. I would love to hear how others are handling this.

So skin color is going to be a sign of class?

Who says whites will be in the minority in this country anytime soon?
There's a huge difference between no longer being more than 50% of the population and being a "minority."
Even if they are a plurality, they'll be the biggest group.
