George Jones singing "He Stopped Loving Her Today"

(Even if you think you don't like country music, you should listen to the entire song if you haven't before.)

In a bit of a different vein, any of you ever heard the song "Kilkelly, Ireland"? It is based on actual letters written between a father and one of his sons who left Ireland during the potato famine to find work in America. It's really lovely, but I always end up sobbing at the end.

Made me cry. Sigh.

A very moving song and probably true events for a lot of families.

Yes, very sad and the facts behind it with the loss of his child unbelievably sad.

This is sad but sweet. An oldie covered by a dozen artists over the years; Sinatra, Bobby Darin, Tony Bennett, et al
Might have been listed here already but here is the link with a great montage of Lucy and Desi (I said it was an oldie, but a goodie).

Amazing Grace, if you count songs that aren't inherently sad but are so co-opted for sad things that they become so.

Even though I think it's a beautiful song, it's so associated with funerals that it makes me cry. I tried to rescue it for myself by singing it to my kids when they were babies. Didn't work.

I don;t cry but embrace life with that song- enjoy everything while you can. Oh God I think I have blown through so much of my life with stupid things.
