I'm sorry for your kids and DHs.
If it makes you feel better, I'm sorry that your DH and kids have such a nagging bitch for a wife and mom. I'm sure your DH's next wife will be much more laid back.![]()
Now your defending your immature, time-sucking "hobby" by calling me names? Even sadder.
My husband and I find better "games" to play in the evening. I don't think he'll be leaving me anytime soon. But your projections on me have me thinking you are feeling a little insecure that one day your DH will realize he married a 15 yo boy!
Yeah... my DH is a big gamer. He loves it when I play (and it has no effect on our sex life, er sorry, "games"). And I know that this might be difficult to wrap your limited brain around, but all hobbies are time-sucks. That's why they're hobbies.
If you think that gaming is immature and for 15 year old boys, let me educate you with a few statistics:
* 49% of gamers are under 18
* Therefore, 51% of gamers are adults (split evenly between 18-49, and over 50)
* 40% of gamers are women
* The average age of gamers is 32 years old
(http://www.onlineeducation.net/videogame)
Time to open your narrow mind and widen your perceptions.
Even with those supposed statistics, it's still sad. The statistics don't change my opinion on the type of adult who continues playing video games well into adulthood. It's an immature hobby.
"sad", right up there with world hunger... So what's a "mature" hobby?
Yeah, I'm going to have to go with this.
I'm going to go with..knitting? Cross-stitch? Sudoko?
I like to churn my own butter and bronze pretty autumn leaves that fall off the trees. Surely these are mature, non-time sucking hobbies. I also carry butterscotch candies in my pockets to give out to good boys and girls.

I love how our hobby is an insult to the hoi polloi. Why not "play football" or "play bridge" as an insult? Gamers are generally pretty chill, don't understand the hate.

I love these posts. Next up, we'll be hearing about how all the D&D players are actually being converted to Satanism, if the heavy metal lyrics haven't already done the job![]()
Seriously though, what I find really amusing is that a family sitting around playing board games doesn't get a second glance. A group of adults doing the same thing(And yes, that falls under the definition of "gamers" as well) is often looked down on for some reason. A game is a game. There's nothing inherently good or bad about them. I don't see complaints about Mahjong groups, weekly poker games, or any number of other types of games. The only times there are problems are when you place too much importance on them, but that's true whether you are spending too much time playing them, to the point you neglect other things, or you hate them so much that you start denouncing anyone that enjoys them. Everyone plays games, from crossword puzzles, sudoku, board games, video games(Those games on your phone count), sports games, etc. That doesn't make anyone any better than the other.
Except for those who play Magic: The Gathering. Those are some sad, sad people![]()
I think that people like to seize upon adults retreating into a fantasy realm as something childish. But I agree with Freedman, that it's all a way to retreat from reality. Sudoku, crosswords, boggle- educational realm stuff is all so serious and adults. I personally, like pretending I am an elf that can kill a dragon with my crossbow. So much sexier to me than Etsy or Pinterest...
I also think that they way that some people get into team sports, and get into their fantasy leagues, paint their faces, dress their babies in the team wear to indoctrinate them early... is
equally about people's fantasies of power, wealth, athleticism, etc. Just sayin'...
You could be my best friend. I completely agree with you, but I would only kill bad dragons.![]()

I really prefer gaming on a console to a PC but I might have to break down to get my bioware fix. Speaking of Bioware, I also loved KOTOR!
There is a continuous story line between all 3 of the ME games, so I wouldn't recommend skipping one. I personally think the first one is the best, although they all had their high and low points. In fact, the first ME might have been the reason I finally broke down and bought a 360. If you did skip it, I would definitely read what happens in the first one. And yes, KOTOR rocked!
The first ME is definitely the best, although they are all amazing. It pretty much rocked my world, gaming-wise, and I'm normally a very casual gamer.

This was me. Sorry-- just having a little "incident." Next time I'll just put down my iphone and take a few deep breaths.
