Your sarcasm is revealing ( about you). I sincerely hope none of us will be "staying tuned" to this forum in 10 years time. For now, what I can share is that DC was accepted to a very competitive school at nearly full tuition. If that irks you, tough.

I did public for grammar school and private for H.S. For this reason: I figure 2+2 is still 4 no matter what school. i just made sure I did extra with my son to keep him at the top of the curve. Then in High School, we went private. I figure in H.S. the public school problems are a bigger, and in private school, the other parents seem more on top of the kids.

If a kid is messing up, a parent is likely to say, "You can mess up for free in a public school." That way, I assume, you get more kids in private school who care about heading to college...Or at least their parents are pushing them that direction. It seems to be working, as my son is around like-minded teens right now. REgardless, there are plenty of kids who do fine in public. If the parents are on it, the kid will be, too.

To clarify - when my son reads silently he is reading at a 5 th grade level but out loud Kindergarden level.

He knows what "tree" means when he reads it silently but he may say "tee" or "three" or "there" aloud.

Always. Can't remember the name of his cereal. Can't remember colors. etc. I had his eyes checked 3 times. Point to red - no problem. What color is this? um, um, orange - no red - yea that's what I meant.
